The most anticipated induction into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s council of ministers is likely to be that of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah when the new government takes oath next week.
Shah, who has debuted in the Lok Sabha, could join could join the Cabinet as Home Minister as Rajnath Singh may be moved to Defense Ministry.
In Gujarat, Shah had served as home minister in the governments led by Modi. However, Rajnath Singh, who has retained his Lucknow seat, is one of the senior-most party leaders and served as home minister in the first Modi government.
The fate of Arun Jaitley who is considered to be a close confidante of Modi and Amit Shah is yet to be decided owing to his ill health. Samriti Irani who has defeated the Congress President may also get a plum portfolio in the Modi's Cabinet. Among others who are expected to continue in the cabinet are Nirmala Sitaraman who ably defended the Rafale Deal and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal who is also slated to be close to PM Modi.
